PADI Advanced Freediver
The PADI Advanced Freediver course will make you dive longer, deeper and with less effort. The waters around Cape Town are a great place to take on this next challenge with mysterious kelp forests and great depths to discover just how deep you can go.
This Advanced Freediving course will give you the tools to refine your freediving skills and improve on your breathhold times and depths. During this 3-day course you will be learning more about how your body performs during apnea (breathhold) and be able to safely and slowly progress in your depths and times underwater, first in the pool and then in open water.
As you have already experienced during your first certifying freediver course; reaching new times and achieving new depths gives an amazing feeling. The PADI Advanced Freediving course will help satisfy your desire to get the best out of yourself and achieve these new goals together with the right guidance of your freediving instructor.
Do you enjoy challenging yourself and trying to reach new personal limits? Than the PADI Advanced Freediver course is for you! This course will satisfy your desire to reach new depths and prolong your breathhold time significantly. Over just 3 days you will learn more about how your body performs during apnea, improve your freediving skills and progress on your own pace to become a better rounded freediver.
The first part of the course will concentrate on further knowledge development where topics as advanced freediving techniques and use of different equipment will be covered. You will be studying the theory independently using the PADI Freediver Touch. Before going to the pool your instructor will have a classroom session to check up on your newly gained knowledge as well as writing an exam.
In the pool session your instructor will cover several stretching and relaxation techniques as well as practicing safety diver procedures before refining your static and dynamic apnea skills. The goal:
- Static apnea of 2:30 minutes (or 2 minutes if you are younger than 18 years)
- Dynamic apnea of 50 metres (or 40 meters if you are younger than 18 years)
The open water sessions are used to practice deeper free immersion and constant weight freedives. In addition to improving your freediving depths and times your instructor will practice rescue techniques and buddy procedures with you.
The goal is to reach a depth of 20 metres (or 15 metres for freedivers younger than 18) on a constant weight freedive.

What Diver’s Say
I started off with scuba and recently I discovered freediving. I really enjoy challenging myself and diving longer and deeper. I was super happy when I reached 60 metres in the pool and easily dived to the max 24 metres in the quarry.
